Anthropic Expands in India with Former Microsoft Leader

Anthropic, a U.S.-based AI startup, has appointed Irina Ghose, a former Microsoft India managing director, to lead its expansion in Bengaluru. This marks a major step as global AI companies compete to grow in India, one of the fastest-growing markets for artificial intelligence.

India already has a large base of AI users, mainly using tools for technical tasks like software development. By establishing a local office, Anthropic aims to provide enterprise-grade AI solutions tailored to Indian businesses, startups, and public institutions. Ghose’s experience in big tech and local enterprise networks will help the company navigate partnerships, regulations, and market adoption.

The move is significant because India offers massive scale with over a billion internet users and 700 million smartphone users. AI tools like Anthropic’s Claude can now reach more users while addressing practical applications in education, healthcare, and business. With competition from other AI firms, this expansion may accelerate innovation and access to AI technologies for a wider audience.

In real-world use, Indian developers and organizations can use Claude for automating tasks, analyzing data, or building AI-powered applications, making AI more practical and accessible for everyday work.
